Hambis Municipal Printmaking Museum

The Museum is housed in an old traditional bakery located in Ammochostou street in the walled city of Nicosia. The first contacts and discussions for its creation began in 2014. Numerous difficulties and obstructions had to be overcome, as a result, its inauguration was achieved 5 years later, in December 2019. The contribution of the Municipality of Nicosia in the realization of this goal, has been significant and essential. In this endeavour the Museum’s Friends were the most valuable asset, with their generous love and support, whether financial aid or voluntary work, throughout the repair and renovation of the building process.

Indistinguishable and on the same mission, the new museum aspires to promote to a wider audience the art of printmaking, to enhance and contribute to the great work performed by the primary museum, interacting and complementing each other with parallel actions.

At the Museum, visitors have the opportunity to become familiar with the historical course of printmaking, its techniques, materials as well as printing presses through a selection from the rich collection of the Museum. Exhibition includes prints of all techniques and methods of printmaking by International and Cypriot artists from the 16th century until today, old books and maps, tools of all printmaking techniques and engraved plates of various techniques with their prints. The Museum organizes educational programs, lectures and temporary exhibitions of contemporary printmaking
