The title of the exhibition From Albrecht Durer to Telemachos Kanthos, with which Hambis Printmaking
Municipal Museum in Nicosia begins its program, presents a wide range of prints. The works that are
exhibited date from the dawn if the 16th century until the 1980s. We could add that it is ”a world tour” of
printmaking, since the exhibition takes us from Renaissance Germany to various European countries,
but also to Russia, China, Japan, America, before bringing us back to Greece and Cyprus. A great
journey through printmaking time and space, all into a beautiful building loaded with history.
The exhibition works also vary, both in their themes but also in their technical language. They propose a
delightful journey full of surprises and discoveries, which brings us closer to world-renowned printmakers
and to art in general such as Durer, Da Vinci, Tiziano, Callot, Poussin, Hogarth, Utamaro, Hisroshige,
Toulouse Lautrec, Mexiac and Galanis. All the prints, carefully selected, belong to the collection of the
well-established Hambis Printmaking Museum in Platanistia.
Our goal is to bring Nicosia’s public as well as the capital’s visitors, closer to the often underestimated art
of printmaking. Due to this art masterpieces were created or became well known masterpieces of other
