La Passion de Notre-Seigneur Jésus Christ (The Passion of the Christ)

Jacques Callot, 17th century, Europe

The series titled the Passion of the Christ, so-called Small due to the dimensions of the etchings, present in tiny detail 12 scenes from the Passion of the Christ. Starting from the Washing the Feet of the disciples until Jesus’ death on the cross, it combines both traditional elements and a very personal rendering of the Passion: the contemporary clothes of some figures, the composition of the scenes, and the tendency towards the imaginary and dramatic.
